The linear bearing (1) has an inner trough-shaped member (3) moving longitudinally inside an outer trough-shaped member (2). The sides of the inner member have inward facing projections (4',5') forming grooves on the outsides acting as ball races. The outer members have corresponding ball races. The edges of the outer member may protrude through slits (10) in outwardly-extending flanges (9) on the inner member. One of the trough-shaped members is made of elastic material and is shaped so that the balls are preloaded when the bearing is assembled.
