FAIL SAFE METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING APPARATUS

The fail safe method comprises the steps of turning on a key switch for supplying electic power from a battery to a control unit and a steering torque sensor. A steering torque, corresponding to a roatry force applied to a handle, is detected by a potentiometer and a neutral region sensor of the steering torque sensor detects whether or not the steering torque is within a neutral region. Electric power from a battery is supplied to a DC motor for supplying a subsidiary steering force to the steering apparatus in response to signals generated from the potentiometer and the torque neutral region sensor. A current flowing in a DC motor is detected by a motor current detector.
