The machine comprises feed water valve, water level detection unit which outputs water level signal to control feed water valve, phase detection unit to detect phase difference between motor coil current and impressed voltage when agitator is rotated by motor in washing tub charged with washing and water up to measured water level for determination of washing amount and means to set water level complying with the amount of washings by determining the amount by phase detection signal. The water level detection unit comprises a case connected to an air trap through a hose, and the disphragm displaces by air pressure of the air trap and piezoelectric elemet are provided in the case.
