PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ground improving method which enables ground improvement at a prescribed depth over a prescribed area by reducing a section overlapping an already ground-improved section, preventing an unimproved section from remaining, and reducing the number of operations of pulling up an apparatus from the inside of ground. SOLUTION: In a chain-type excavating apparatus, a guide frame is provided in a base machine with a traveling body in a direction crossing a traveling direction, and an endless chain with an excavating blade is stretched between both upper and lower ends of a cutter post. In the ground improving method, the ground improvement is performed by agitating and mixing a treatment material with excavated soil by means of the chain-type excavating apparatus which is provided so as to be capable of making a traverse motion in an excavating direction along the guide frame and wherein the guide frame is provided in such a manner as to freely overhang with respect to the traveling body.
