PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for processing motion information are provided to prevent error display by promptly obtaining motion information when a moving picture is switched to a still picture. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for processing motion information includes a detector(14) processing motion information of a pixel signal by input interlaced scanning and detecting motion information of a main pixel under differential information of the pixel signal at the same position of two fields, a motion information selecting unit(12) outputting motion information of the main pixel by determining motion information of the main pixel under the detected motion information of the main pixel in a main field and motion information of a previous main pixel corresponding to a prior field, and a determinating unit(11) determining whether there are a predetermined number of motion pixels having motion information indicating motion picture in an area including a plurality of adjacent pixels having the main pixel of the main field. If the number of motion pixels is less than a predetermined number, the motion information of the main pixel is determined regardless of motion information of the main pixel corresponding to the prior field. |
