PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an interpolation pixel generating circuit capable of generating interpolating scanning lines having less noise by determining whether or not an error correcting section properly performs correlation detection for surrounding pixel information. SOLUTION: The circuit is provided with a line memory 1 for inputting image information GD 1 successively scanned for each pixel on a display device and outputting delay image information GD2 obtained by delaying the image information for one horizontal period; an interpolation processor 2 for generating an incorrect determination signal CD according to the result of comparison between the image information of two pixels opposing high correlation information AD having high a correlation of image information of pixels opposing in the vertical direction and the inclined direction of two scanning lines, centered at interpolation pixels generated between adjacent scanning lines, and generating an interpolation pixel on the basis of the high correlation signal AD when the incorrect determination signal is not generated; and a correction processing section 3a for generating the image information of the interpolation pixel by using the image information of vertically adjacent pixels of the interpolation pixel when the incorrect determination signal CD is generated.
