The guard for a cable which revolves in a machine has a protective housing (1) with a U-profile and a fastening device to attach the housing to the machine. On the free standing end (7) of each member (2,3) of the U-profile there is a holder for the fastening device, whereby the ends of the members grip under tension the fastening device extending between the members. The profile of the protective housing is formed from a material with elastic properties, whereby the ends of the members are pressed apart in the installed position.
