PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a triamine compound that has a chemical structure of three nitrogen atoms connected through two alkylene groups and, when the triamine is used as a metal complex, a phenol compound bearing no substituent on at least one ortho position is oxidatively condensed to give para-position condensate in high yield. SOLUTION: The triamine is represented by general formula (I) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a cyclic saturated hydrocarbon group; R<SP>2</SP>is methylene, ethylene, a halogen-substituted methylene or halogen-substituted ethylene; R<SP>3</SP>is a 1-8C alkylene; R<SP>4</SP>is H, a 1-4C alkyl; wherein a plurality of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>may be identical or different and two R<SP>4</SP>s may be connected to form a 1-8C alkylene group).
