To clean a suspension of paper fibers, an oil additive is used to remove hydrophobic impurities. The suspension, together with the added oil, is subjected to an extraction as a secondary stage combined with a conventional mechanical sorting process. The oil is a natural vegetable or animal oil e.g. from peanuts, rape, soy, linseed, castor oil, olives, palm, coconuts, maize, cotton seeds and/or marine animal oil.
