PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which does not give rise to an offset of the toner to be used in fixing to a fixing roller even in the case of application of a separating charge by using a separating needle as a separating means. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a fixing means provided with a roller pair with a nip section formed between a heating roller and a pressure roller, a transfer means for transferring the toner image formed on a latent image carrier to a transfer material, and the separating means for separating the transfer material from the surface of the latent image carrier by applying a prescribed voltage to the transfer material carried to the fixing means through the transfer means from its back or for assisting the separation. The apparatus is equipped with a separating voltage control means which discontinues the application of the separating voltage to be supplied to the separating means before the leading end of the carried transfer material rushes into the nip section of the fixing means.
