An assigned application accesses a key from a standard file in the memory space through security functions allowing access to the key for use in a session. The security functions prevent access to the key by unauthorized users. A further step involves deletion of the key from the memory space. The terminal is a global system for mobile communication unit. The memory space is in a smart card in accordance with a subscriber identification module. The memory space can be an abbreviated dialling number file, a fixed dialling numbe file or a secondary directroy number file, and the keys are stored in one or more of such file entries. The binary keys are in an alphanumeric and/or hexadecimal form. They are encrypted. The keys are used for encrypting, decrypting, digitally signing for any required data. |
