<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality by maintaining the contact condition of a developer layer thickness regulation member. <P>SOLUTION: A developing device has a developer carrier arranged rotatably and supplying a developer to an image carrier, a regulation member arranged to come into contact with the developer carrier, a working amount calculation processing means for calculating a working amount of the developing device, and a moving mechanism for moving the regulation member by corresponding to the working amount. In response to the working amount, since the moving mechanism for moving the regulation member is arranged, a normal part having no abrasion of the regulation member and the developer carrier are brought into contact with each other. The developing device can maintain a contact condition, and can prevent the layer of the developer in the developer carrier from thickening.
