PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element having high luminous brightness, high luminous efficiency and high durability; and to provide a new spiro bond-containing compound achieving the organic electroluminescent element. SOLUTION: The new spiro bond-containing compound has a spiro bond and a specific structure. The organic electroluminescent element obtained by sandwiching one or more organic thin film layers between a cathode and an anode includes at least one layer of the organic thin film layers, e.g. a light-emitting layer, an electron-transporting layer or a hole-transporting layer, containing the spiro bond-containing compound.
