The proposed method for determining contamination of environment by metals implies the use of the effect that consists in the deceleration of the growth of the bacterium and the loss to produce pigments by the bacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens sp., Pseudomonas fluorescens var. pseudo-iodinum, Serratia marcescens in solid nutrient medium if concentration of metals in the environment exceeds a specified value. The present invention provides a possibility of the fast visual monitoring of the state of the environment.
