PURPOSE: To provide an on-line fault mapping device which is improved and used for a memory. CONSTITUTION: A SEC/DED syndrome generator 8 checks the data which are accessed at random by plural memory chips in an on-line processing mode and displays the errors included in the accessed data. An error memory 13 is connected to the generator 8 and stores the count value of errors so far detected for every memory at a prescribed position. A counter 15 connected to the memory 13 and the generator 8 to receive the count value of memories so far accessed from the memory 13 and then increases the count value to rewrite it at a prescribed position of the memory 13 if the generator 18 displays an error. As a result, just a single counter is necessary regardless of the number of bits that are accessed in a single reading operation.
