In a belted pneumatic tyre wherein one sidewall 13 is specified as outboard and the tyre has a normal direction of rotation f, the tyre carcass comprises a first radial end ply and a second ply of parallel ends 191 making with radial planes y-y an angle α of between 5 and 45 degrees and laid so that the cords extend from the outboard sidewall toward the mid-circumferential plane x-x in the normal direction of rotation and, from the inboard sidewall opposite to said normal direction of rotation. The first ply may lie either inside or outside the second, and the second ply may be transversely interrupted in the tread region. The two plies may be of cords having different elongation characteristics, e.g. the first ply of rayon and the second of nylon.
