The circuit (1) has a directly modulated semiconducting radiation source (100) to which a modulated current (IHL) is fed depending on a digital data signal and with peaking of the falling signal edge. A circuit arrangement (20) that is connected to the circuit at a contact point (5) reduces or inhibits peaking of the falling signal edge if the flux voltage at the semiconducting radiation source falls below a defined value.
