<p>The apparatus has, connected to a loop (2), a rail (3) on which an endless chain of carriages (4) is guided. Along the rail (3) there are arranged feeding stations (9) for feeding the carriages (5) with piece-goods (10) and also target stations (11) for receiving the piece-goods (10). Each carriage (5) has two shells (13, 14) which are individually pivotable about a common axis and two separate actuating elements for tipping the shells (13, 14). Each target station (11) has two individually operable cams for initiating the tipping operation. At the feeding station (9) a package (10) is loaded onto one of the carriages (5), either onto both shells (13, 14) of this carriage (5) or only onto one of them, depending on the size of the package (10). The target station (11) and the occupied shell (13, 14) or occupied shells (13, 14) are input into a control device (12). As soon as the carriage reaches this target station (11), the shell(s) (13, 14) is tipped by activating the corresponding cam(s).
