The driver (36) urges the carrier body (30) with a controlled force and speed from the retracted position toward the advanced position to place at least a portion of the at least one piercing member (12) of the insertion set (14) through the skin of the patient to install the insertion set (14) to the patient. The receiving structure (3 2) of the carrier body (30) is removable from the insertion set (14).
