PURPOSE: A channel estimation device using a nonlinear filter and a method thereof are provided to use a nonlinear filter which puts weights on a preliminary channel estimation value and a raw channel estimation value and carries out a multi-coupling process, thereby realizing more excellent performance. CONSTITUTION: A multiplier(100) multiplies an input signal by a reference pilot signal. An average filter(102) calculates an average value of a pilot symbol. An interpolator(104) calculates a preliminary channel change estimation value by linear interpolation algorithm from the average value. A channel compensator(108) compensates for a channel change value of a data symbol delayed for a predetermined time by using the preliminary estimation value. A signal decider(110) preliminarily decides a code of the data symbol based on the compensated data symbol. A raw channel compensator(112) calculates a raw channel estimation value. A nonlinear filter(114) calculates a final channel change estimation value. A signal compensator(116) compensates for the data symbol.
