摘要 PURPOSE:To provide a bright display with a simple structure and high utilizing efficiency of light by using a liquid crystal composite generating a difference of layered refraction factors depending on the ratio of liquid crystal to a polymer material or the magnitude of the liquid crystal area in the polymer material. CONSTITUTION:An optical element has a multilayer structure consisting of a polymer material 505 and a liquid crystal 506 between transparent electrodes 503 and 504. Since the refraction factor of the liquid crystal 506 is changed by electric field, the refraction factor difference between the liquid crystal and the polymer material can be changed. When no voltage is applied, the multilayer structure having the refraction factors of the polyemer material 505 and the liquid crystal 506 is formed, and a reflected light 509 of a specified wavelength band is provided from the optical property of the multilayer structure, and the light having other wavelength is provided as a transmitted light 510. When a voltage is applied, and the refraction factor of the liquid crystal 506 is changed to minimize the refraction factors of the polymer material 505 and the liquid crystal 506, the multilayer structure is extinguished, and an incident light 508 is provided as the transmitted light 510 as it is. Thus, the reflection/ transmission of the light of the specified wavelength band can be electrically controlled.
