PURPOSE: To provide a cartridge type water softener of which volume and weight are reduced compared with a conventional water softener, of which price is inexpensive, and which obtains constant water softening effect to solve conventional problems including large volume and heavy weight of column, expensive price of the column and variable water softening effect. CONSTITUTION: The cartridge type water softener comprises a column(10) which is equipped with a water inlet(13) and a water outlet(14) respectively, and in which ion exchange resin is filled to produce soft water using water flown in through the water inlet and discharge the soft water through the water outlet; and a pair of insertion parts(20,30) on which pipelines are formed so that the water inlet of the column and a water inlet pipe(21) are communicated with each other, and the water outlet of the column and a water outlet pipe(31) are communicated with each other, wherein the column is separated from the insertion parts to replace the used column with a new column when life of the column ends, wherein an elastic member(40) is installed on an inner portion of the pair of insertion parts to elastically support both ends of the column when connecting to or separating the water inlet and the water outlet of the column from the water inlet and outlet pipes.
