PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadband optical fiber amplifier that has a high amplification efficiency and a low noise factor compared to those conventionally in use. SOLUTION: A broadband optical fiber amplifier for amplifying C-band and L-band optical signals is provided with a first amplifying section 270 that is pumped by an excitation light 231 to amplify the C-band and L-band optical signals and generate ASE, an L-band pumping light source 280 that is pumped by excitation lights 232 and 233 to amplify the ASE, and a second amplifying section 290 that is pumped by the ASE amplified by the L-band pumping light source to amplify for the second time the L-band light source amplified by the first amplifying section.
