PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver and a broadcast reception method which allow an up/down channel selection operation meeting user's request to be realized by defining a rule of up/down channel selection, which considers the case that a plurality of broadcasts having the same three-digit channel number can be received. SOLUTION: In the broadcast receiver wherein branch numbers (0), (1) and (2) different by broadcasting channels are added to a channel number 011 in the case that a plurality of broadcasting channels to which the same channel number 011 is added are received, the channel selection operation is performed in order of channel numbers 011 and in the order of branch numbers (0), (1) and (2) of the same channel numbers 011 when up channel selection or down channel selection for broadcasting channels is requested.
