PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device having the high utilization efficiency of light source light and made small in size. SOLUTION: The projection type display device 1 is equipped with a light source 2, a liquid crystal light valve 5 modulating light emitted from the light source 2, a mirror scanner 3 making the light emitted from the light source 2 scan and a projection lens 6. The mirror scanner 3 is constituted to be turnable by combining three dichroic mirrors 7a, 7b and 7c selectively reflecting specified color light respectively when white light is made incident from the light source 2. By the turning operation of the mirror scanner 3, the light valve 5 is scanned with the different color reflected light at specified intervals, and also driven corresponding to the scanning with the different color reflected light.
