PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display device and a driving method thereof which is capable of optimizing a luminance step by changing driving conditions and realizing a display recognized as high gradation when the display is performed so that the total number of gradation of driving data is constant. SOLUTION: The driving conditions are determined in such a manner that the stimulus values of luminance for the driving data are approximated to regular intervals. Further, the driving conditions are changed so that the frequency of a reference clock used for pulse modulation comes to higher in the low gradation region of the driving data than in the high gradation region. Thereby, an increment of the luminance is reduced in the low gradation region and is increased in the high gradation region. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
