PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal linear scale capable of quick measurement in the vertical direction of even a narrow part such as a sewing part of a roughly U-shaped sewing machine. SOLUTION: In the metal linear scale using the gradation end face as a base point and having the gradation face on the surface side along the longitudinal direction, the second gradation face is provided on the end back side along the direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction, and the base point of the second gradation face is used as the gradation side face along the longitudinal direction. Since the second gradation face is provided on the end back side along the direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction, and the base point of the second gradation face is used as the gradation side face along the longitudinal direction in the scale, measurement in the vertical direction can be performed easily by the second gradation face, even in the case of a narrow spot such as a sewing part of a roughly U-shaped sewing machine.
