The invention relates to a local integrated data and telephone network in which telephone transmission takes place via two-wire lines while data transmission takes place via four-wire lines. In order to be able to simultaneously transmit both signals via existing four-wire lines (26), phantom technology is used, one respective functional network being installed at the ends of the four-wire line (26) such that a virtual two-wire line is added to the physical four-wire line. The invention is applicable especially in cases where four-wire lines are installed as telephone lines, allowing a data network to be set up in addition to the telephone network without having to install additional lines.
