PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of a projection video display device which prevents projected light powerful to a person etc., from entering the eyes and avoids giving an unpleasant impression to a viewer. SOLUTION: A video display element is driven in the state of dividing an area to a plurality of areas and the person or the like entering the inside of the projection area of a screen surface is detected by at least any among a plurality of detecting means. Replacement of data is discretely performed by each of the plurality of areas of the video display element based on the detected information and the display state of the screen surface position is changed in correspondence to the position of the person or the like.
