PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix capable of maintaining strong signal intensities, even after placement in vacuum over a long period of time in MALDI mass spectrometry. SOLUTION: The matrix for MALDI mass spectrometry comprises a compound expressed by formula (1) (wherein two or more among R1-R4, each have a total carbon number between 6-18 and are aryl groups which may be substituted by a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a sulfonic group, a carboxyl group, an alkyl group, or an alkoxy group; one or less among R1-R4 is a hydrogen atom; others, each have a total carbon number between 1-10 and are alkyl groups which may be substituted by an halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, or a sulfonic group; R5, R6, Ra<SB>i</SB>, and Rb<SB>i</SB>are each, independently a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; n is an integer between 0-3; and i is an integer between 1-n).
