<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color image that is free from color shifts, by minimizing, without decreasing recording speed, color phase differences of an intermediate body, which is caused by rotation load changes, and to obtain a banding-free, satisfactory color image. <P>SOLUTION: First, the rotation of a drive motor 40 is transmitted to an intermediate transfer body 16 via a first transmission means 41 using a toothed drive transmission belt 45. Next, the rotation is transmitted to a photoreceptor 11 via a second drive transmission means 42 using a toothed drive transmission belt 50. The photoreceptor 11 is driven with a single drive motor 40 and the intermediate transfer body 16 is also driven. Monochrome images formed on the photoreceptor 11 are transferred one after another to form a color image on the intermediate transfer body 16.
