PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of preventing damages on a metal back and a phosphor screen by spacers and with an improved voltage-withstanding property against discharge. SOLUTION: The image display device is provided with a first base plate 10 having a display face and a second base plate arranged in opposition to the first base plate with a gap having a plurality of electron emission sources 18. A spacer assembly 22 is arranged between the first and the second base plates for supporting an atmospheric pressure load acting on the base plates. The spacer assembly arranged between the first and the second base plates are provided with a plate-shaped grid 24 having a plurality of electron beam passing holes 26 each in opposition to the electron emission sources, and a plurality of spacers 30 arranged in a standing condition only on the second base plate side of the grid and in contact with the second base plate.
