PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation method of a gasification melting furnace capable of reducing the operation cost in a gasification melting furnace of a coke-using type. SOLUTION: In this operation method of the gasification melting furnace for forming a massive charcoal bed within the furnace to perform the gasification and melting of a waste matter, a massive charcoal material forming the massive charcoal material bed is at least partially formed of molded charcoal. The molded charcoal preferably includes a carbide of biomass at least as a part of the raw material, has a crushing strength of 196N/P or more and a drum strength of 70% or more.
