PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for transmitting/receiving data by using a multi-antenna diversity scheme in a mobile communication system are provided to maximize space diversity resource efficiency and enhance overall performance of a system. CONSTITUTION: When STTD encoders(325,327) receive data symbol streams, they encode the data symbol streams according to a pre-set encoding method, namely, a time-space transmission diversity scheme, and output two encoded symbol streams. If the data symbol streams are initially transmitted data symbol streams, a controller(330) controls to transmit the two encoded symbol streams respectively through a first transmission antenna and a second transmission antenna. If the data symbol streams are re-transmitted data symbol streams, the controller controls to transmit the two encoded symbol streams respectively through the second transmission antenna and the first transmission antenna.
