<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a storage water heater capable of preventing deterioration of operation efficiency of a heat pump unit in regard to the storage water heater using stored high temperature hot water as a heat source for a heater or the like in addition to hot water supply. <P>SOLUTION: In a circulation circuit 43, discharge openings 42a-42c are plurally divided and connected in a height direction of a hot water storage tank 1, and it is composed so that one is selected from the plurality of discharge openings 42a-42c and hot water of a medium temperature is returned into the hot water storage tank 1 on the basis of a hot water temperature in a neighborhood of a portion connected to the discharge openings 42a-42c in the hot water storage tank 1. In delivery tubes 13 and 14, delivery openings 14a-14c are plurally divided and connected in the height direction of the hot water storage tank 1, and they are composed so that one of the delivery openings 14a-14c is selected to deliver hot water into the hot storage tank 1 on the basis of a hot water temperature in a neighborhood of a portion connected to the delivery openings 14a-14c in the hot water storage tank 1.
