PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type transmission device capable of preventing abnormal tension from occurring on a tension belt by eliminating such an event that the projected part of a block rides on the principal plane of an adjacent block when a V-belt touches a tension roller. SOLUTION: In this belt type transmission device, the V-belt is stretched across a drive pulley and a driven pulley and the rear face of the V-belt is pressed by the tension roller to provide a tension to the belt. The V-belt comprises an endless pair of tension bands 10 and a large number of blocks 1A having a pair of right and left fitting grooves 2 for fitting the tension bands therein formed on both side parts thereof and locked to the tension bands at equal pitches in the longitudinal direction. The block is formed thick at the vertical center part and gradually thinner toward both upper and lower end parts. A vertical elongated hole-shaped recessed part 7a is formed at the vertical center part of one principal plane of the block, and a projected part 8a fitted with a vertical allowance to the recessed part in an adjacent block is formed at the vertical center part of the other principal plane.
