PURPOSE: An image signal processing method for preventing the afterimage of a plasma display panel is provided to prevent the afterimage by periodically outputting the afterimage prevention data changing the vertical/horizontal start point to an arbitrary frame. CONSTITUTION: An image signal processing method for preventing the afterimage of a plasma display panel includes the steps of: supplying(201) the selection menu of the afterimage prevention function through the OSD in response to the key input; determining(204) whether the afterimage prevention function based on the selection menu is set or not; setting(205) the refresh timer in response to the setting of the afterimage prevention function and outputting the afterimage prevention timer with checking the video signal inputted to match the predetermined set timer; and periodically outputting(206) the afterimage data changing the horizontal/vertical start point for an arbitrary frame among the overall input image frames in response to the timing control.
