Disclosed herein are a phosphorescent agent containing a structural unit represented by the following general formula (1): <CHEM> wherein M is a metal atom having a valence of 2 to 4, R<1> is a monovalent group selected from a hydrogen atom, halogen atoms, alkyl groups and aryl groups, R<2> is a hydrogen atom or methyl group, Y is a single bond or a divalent organic group including a carbonyl group, L is an organic ligand, m is an integer of 1 to 3, and p is an integer of 1 to 4, in its molecule and having a molecular weight of 1,000 to 500,000, production process thereof, and a luminescent composition containing such a compound and applied products thereof.
