摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent substance for use in a vacuum ultraviolet-excited light emitting element exhibiting high luminance. SOLUTION: The fluorescent substance for the vacuum ultraviolet-excited light emitting element consists of the compound described by the formula: Ca<SB>1-a-b</SB>Sr<SB>a</SB>Eu<SB>b</SB>MgSi<SB>2</SB>O<SB>6</SB>, wherein a is in the range of≥0.03 to≤0.35 and b is in the range of≥0.003 to≤0.02. In the other fluorescent substance described by the formula, a is in the range of≥0.15 to≤0.32 and b is in the range of≥0.005 to≤0.015.
