PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that is able to secure safety, that is thin-structured, and that is superior in a projection image, and also to provide a control method of the projector. SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with a laser beam generator 20 that modulates and emits each of a first, a second and a third color laser beam correspondingly to each image signal, an optical scanner 30 that has a reflection area for reflecting each color laser beam from the laser beam generator 20 and that scans each color laser beam in the two-dimensional direction by rotating the reflection area around prescribed two axes crossing each other, and a screen 40 that displays a projection image using each color laser beam scanned by the optical scanner 30. The optical scanner 30 is arranged in such a position that each color laser beam is made incident roughly to the center of the screen 40 at a specific angle other than zero degree relative to the normal to the screen 40.
