IMAGE INTERPOLATION DEVICE AND AN IMAGE INTERPOLATION METHOD TO ADAPTIVELY USE ONE OF TWO FIR FILTERS

PURPOSE: An image interpolation device and an image interpolation method are provided to adaptively select one of two FIR(Finite Impulse Response) filters and interpolate an input image when up-scaling the input image by a certain resolution conversion rate. CONSTITUTION: An image signal storing unit(310) stores an input image signal. A filtering selection unit(320) outputs a selection signal for a certain filtering among at least inter-different two interpolation filtering according to a luminance level pattern of the input image signals successively inputted from the image signal storing unit. A control unit(330) calculates interpolation positions with respect to the input image signals according to a resolution conversion rate. A coefficient storing unit(340) stores interpolation coefficients corresponding to the calculated interpolation positions according to the filtering, and outputs the filtering selection signal and the interpolation coefficients corresponding to the interpolation positions. An interpolation filter(350) receives the input image signals from the image signal storing unit and the interpolation coefficients from the coefficient storing unit, performs the selected filtering, and outputs an output image signal.
