PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polishing method capable of flat face having no hollow, lift, flaw or falling-off, relative to a sample including minerals having various hardnesses such as an ore or a metal refining intermediate. SOLUTION: In a process for embedding the sample such as the ore or the metal refining intermediate into a resin to consolidate it, and polishing it in the order of processes of rough polishing, intermediate polishing, finish polishing and final polishing, polishing of the sample is performed by using polishing boards such as a copper board, a tin board or a lead board in the order from a hard one to a soft one in the finish polishing and the final polishing. In the finish polishing and the final polishing, diamond particles are preferably used as abrasive grains to be used, and a mixture of liquid paraffin and kerosine is preferably used as a lubricant.
