PURPOSE: A spitting device and a method thereof are provided to reduce spitting time and increase printing speed by moving the carriage with the ink cartridge within the range of the shortest distance and varying the spitting position of ink of the print head according to the size of paper. CONSTITUTION: A spitting device(100) is composed of a long box(120) formed in a bottom frame(112) and faced to the moving range of an ink injection nozzle related to the entire moving passage of a print head(101a) to store ink from the ink injection nozzle from the print head in spitting, and a control unit(160) controlling spitting of the print head and discharging ink to the long box at the spitting position for minimizing movement of a carriage(102) with the print head according to the size of paper(P) or a printer predetermined by a user.
