PURPOSE: A storage medium having a dual format structure and a data backup method using the storage medium are provided to back up data located in a fixed format area susceptible to an error in a recordable area of the same recording medium, thereby reducing the time required for correcting the error while preventing speed deterioration when reproducing the data later. CONSTITUTION: A system detects whether data of a storage medium is abnormal(300). If so, the system re-checks whether an error is generated after an error correction process for the data(310). If so, the system calculates the size of the data highly susceptible to the error(320). The system records the calculated data in a recordable area of a storage medium having a dual format structure, and completes a backup process(330).
