<p>Disclosed is an optical compensation film (603, 611) for Liquid Crystal Displays comprising an amorphous polymer layer disposed on a substrate wherein said amorphous polymer layer has an out-of-plane birefringence Deltanth(lambda) (701, 703) at a wavelength lambda which is a monotonic increasing fucntion (i.e. it has a proper dispersion) that satisfies both conditions (1) and (2): Condition (1) Deltanth(lambda) is more negative than-0.005 throughout the range of 370nm<lambda<700nm ; Condition (2) Deltanth(lambda1) is more negative than Deltanth(lambda2), for lambda1<LAMBDA2 throughout the range of 370nm<lambda<700nm, and wherein the polymer does not have chromophores off the backbone.</p>
