PURPOSE: A damping device of a disk drive pickup device is provided to generate a force proportional to a speed in a direction opposite to a focusing direction in which a swing arm moves, to operate the generated force as a damping force, thereby realizing a damping effect without using a consumable material. CONSTITUTION: A VCM actuator(5) is hinge-coupled by a horizontal hinge(1) to rotate in horizontal direction on a drive body. A swing arm(2) is formed at an opposite end of the VCM actuator(5) based on the horizontal hinge(1). A base optical system is inserted into the swing arm(2). An objective lens(4) is installed at the end of the swing arm(2). A damping device(8) consists of a conductor(81) installed at the end of the swing arm(2), and a magnet(82) isolated from the end of the swing arm(2).
