<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a carbonaceous fiber, by which the carbonaceous fiber can profitably be produced in a high yield in a state little causing shrinkage unevenness and inter-fiber adhesion on a thermal treatment, and to provide a carbonaceous fiber and an activated carbon fiber which are suitable as various electrode materials, conductive materials, heat-insulating materials, adsorbing materials, flame-proofing materials, antistatic materials, heat-resistant materials, chemical-resistant materials, and the like. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing the carbonaceous fiber is characterized by treating a polyvinyl alcohol-based fiber with a halogen under tension and then thermally treating the treated fiber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
