Lifting apparatus as shown in Fig. 1, incorporating an L-shaped lifting fork for suspension from the end of a cable comprises a pair of substantially horizontal parallel arms 1, (2), Fig. 3 (not shown), each similarly arranged. The arm 1 is integral with an upright 4.1 of an upright carrier frame 3 co-operating with a system of rods formed by a tie and a link 16.1, 17.1, respectively, and an upright 7.1 to constitute a deformable quadrilateral. The upright 7.1 forms part of a suspension frame 7 lifted by a hook 14. The link 16.1 is pivoted between the upright 4.1 and the upright 7.1 at 18 and 19: the link 17.1 is similarly pivoted at 20 and 21 and is extended to support a counterweight 23. When the apparatus is unloaded, as shown, the counterweight 23 is adjacent the arms 1, (2) which are horizontal or slightly descending. When loaded by a load (24), Fig. 2 (not shown), the quadrilateral is deformed so that the counterweight 23 swings out and the arms 1, (2) maintained horizontal or slightly ascending. Two counterweights (26), (27), Fig. 5 (not shown), moving differentially may be employed. The lowermost part of the deformable quadrilateral may be constituted by a cam 30.], Fig. 6, on a lever 29.1. In a variant of this last embodiment, Fig. 9, a roller 36 may engage the cam 30.1 and a balance weight 31 may be replaced by, or combined with a traction spring 38 and/or a compression spring 39. An adjustable flexible tie constituted by a chain (40), Fig. 2 (not shown), inserted between the frame (3) and the suspension frame (7) may be used to obtain perfect horizontality of the arms (1), (2) whether the load (24) be heavy or light. The various counterweights may be fixed both in weight and position or adjustable in various ways.</p> |
