The invention relates to a computer-based system (4'), for the dynamic allocation of carrier frequencies to computerised access points (API, AP2, APn) of a wireless local area network (7), a so-called WLAN, connected to th e access points by means of a communication connection (6). Current operating values, such as the current number of associated users and the current numbe r of received data packets with and without errors, are recorded by means of autonomous agent modules (AM1, AM2, AMn) of the computer-based system (4'), using the communication connection (6), from the access points (AP1, AP2, APn). Based on the recorded operating values, individual weighting factors f or the access points (AP1, AP2, APn) are calculated in the computer-based syste m (4'). Access point information on the access points (API, AP2, APn), comprising current carrier frequencies and weighting factors are stored in t he computer-based system (4'). Optimal carrier frequencies, or radio channels, for the reduction of interference between the access points (AP1, AP2, APn) are determined in the computer-based system (4'), based on the stored access point information and set in the access points (AP1, AP2, APn), by means of the communication connection (6). The optimal carrier frequencies or radio channels can be determined and set in the access points (API, AP2, APn) without the need for resources of the wireless local area network (7) to be used and without having to carry out changes to the access points (AP1, AP2, APn).
