[Also in Division F2j A device for feeding and cutting wrapping material while securing a tear-strip to it in a wrapping machine comprises means to reduce cyclicly the speed of a tear strip gripper tab cutter, the transverse cutter and the material feed during cutting. The wrapper web 2 and strip 17 are superposed as they pass over a roller 11 and are led together over tensioning means 12. They are separated by a roller 21 and then pass beneath a heat-sealer 22 raised and lowered by a solenoid and linkage 24, 29. A cam 37 enables the sealer to be retained in the upper position for setting up &c. The combined web and strip pass through a cutter 42 where the tabs 39, Fig. 3 (not shown), are formed, the cutter being adjustable transversely of the web. The web is then engaged by feed rolls 62, 63 and travels through guides 64, 65 to the transverse cutter 77. The guide 65 is movable away from the web together with the roll 63 for access purposes. The guide 64 is extended at 68 to form a strip entering a circumferential groove in the roll of the cutter 77 and a gap in its blade to retain the web against the roll. The groove coincides with the tab 39. The cutter may be disconnected from its guide. Variable-speed drive (see also Division F2).- The feed rolls and both cutters are driven from a shaft 48, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), on which is rotatably mounted a member 51, an integral sprocket 49 of which is rotated by the main machine drive. A sector 54 is pivotally mounted on the member 51 and is oscillated during rotation of the latter by a follower 57 and fixed face cam 59. The sector engages a sprocket 55 fast on the shaft 48 and the latter is thus accelerated or retarded according to movements of the sector. The entire device may be raised or lowered relative to the rest of the wrapping machine (not described) by a hand wheel 97 and threaded shaft 91. |
